Research into the African Mottled Eel
Little is known about the African Mottled Eel, a group of researchers from UKZN recently joined us on the Tugela River to study the life cycle of this rarely seen individual!
The day’s activities started with capturing an eel in long nets put in overnight, weighing it, measuring the length, measuring the eyes and finally putting in a tracker. This will enable the research team to understand this eel’s lifestyle going forward. The eel was then safely released back into the river.
We’re pleased to have been able to assist in the research and hope it will help find out a little more about this illusive eel!
