On the 22nd March 2014 the first of the new zebra arrived onto UmPhafa. These 13 individuals had been captured on another private nature reserve where they had become overstocked and the owners needed to remove them from the property to prevent the habitat from deteriorating.
Last year managers on UmPhafa begun translocating wildlife onto the second portion of the reserve for the very first time. Zebra are an important bulk-grazer species which are very important to the specific habitat type of UmPhafa. These 13 zebra form part of a founder population totaling 60 which will be released gradually over the next few weeks.
