Previous UmPhafa intern Helen Wildin, has completed her sponsored coast to coast bike ride to raise money to help with the continued running of Colchester Zoo’s UmPhafa reserve.
Helen’s cycle took her from Morecombe to Bridlington along a 170 mile route through changing landscapes and challenging hills.
On completing the challenge Helen has said “The rain stayed off and the weather was perfect. All round good weekend. Hopefully any money raised can be useful.”
Colchester Zoo’s UmPhafa reserve is funded by our charity Action for the Wild, the reserve was set up to recreate the habitat for species present in the area, which were wiped out by the previous farming techniques. With help from Action for the Wild a release programme has also been established on UmPhafa; releasing species that were once native back into this area. The reserve relies on Action for the Wild’s donations and so fundraising such as this is a fantastic way to help make sure it is secure for the future!
Action for the Wild and the UmPhafa reserve would like to thank Helen for her fantastic efforts in raising both money and awareness of conservation and Colchester Zoo and for taking part in such a fantastic challenge!
